FEAR IS DEFINITELY NOT A FACTOR FOR SUMMER READERS!

Chewing up spanish flies (raisins), even when the wings are removed and they are dipped in chocolate does not sound appetizing to this librarian.  However, our summer readers gobbled them up in record time!

The kids proved they had toes of steel as they dipped their bare feet into tubs filled with ice water, snakes, rats, spiders and other creepy bugs (they sure looked like the real things) in order to retrieve as many glass stones as they could in a few seconds.

Donning shower caps and goggles, the contestants had to dig through a large bowl of slippery green tapeworms (spaghetti) to find the insects (plastic) hidden within.  Of course they could only use their mouth to do so.  During this contest, FEAR became a small factor to a few of the participants.

The ancient rotten eggs from a rare bird in China made this relay rather slippery; as the teams had to pass the eggs from one to another using their hands.  The team with the most egg in their container at the end of the relay were delared the winners.

The final Fear Factor Contest of the day, thanks to Uncle Homer and his sick hogs, was a ‘pig snot’ relay.  You guessed it!  The contestants had to chow down the pig snot (colored cool-whip) and chew the bubble gum hidden underneath!

Prizes where given to all the winners and the other kids were allowed to pick something from the ‘disgusting bag’.

These contests proved without a doubt that FEAR is NOT a FACTOR for the Ness City Public Library “Catch the Reading Bug” summer readers!

This final activity brought to a close the 2008 Summer Reading program and everyone who participated in any of our summer reading programing really did CATCH THE READING BUG!
