We are so excited to announce that the Ness City Public Library now has a facebook page! We’d like to thank the ‘FANS’ who have signing up thus far; for we have already reached the magic number which allowed us our own domain name.

We will posts happenings, emergency closings, and other tid-bits of interest to our page.

Many of our patrons have inquired about our web page. “Why is it so different?” “Why can’t I access the card catalog or my account from the web page?”

The answer is we have been down for several weeks thanks to a ‘ hacker’, who played havoc with a number of Kansas Library’s web pages. Thanks to all who have worked long hours to correct this unfortunate situation, we are almost back to normal.

I hope to have time to finish this process on NCPL’s end of the matter very soon. I’m very happy that so many of our friends missed our web page and we are pleased that you can once again enjoy the convenience of using our web page. Thanks again for your understanding and support!

Transportation Story Time Comes to an End

Six weeks of story time ZOOMED by! We really had a great time reading and learning about TRAINS, AIRPLANES, BOATS, CARS, TRUCKS AND TRACTORS! The children had fun making crafts and snacks that represented each type of transporation.

Everyone enjoyed singing our song: Transportation.

Transportation.

Cars and trains.

Boats and planes.

All aboard for Reading!

“Little Red Riding Hood” to Entertain School Children

Ness City Public Library will be hosting the Wichita Children’s Theatre on October 14, 2009 at the Ness City High School Auditorium. All Ness County school age children in grades pre-school though sixth are invited to attend.

The Ness City Public Library Board of Trustees strive to continue offering this wonderful event for the children of Ness County; however, due to the cost, this is only possible with help from the schools, individuals and other entities in Ness County. Many children in rural areas are not lucky enough to be able to attend a professional musical play, such as the ones the WCT actors provide; but thanks to loyal supporters of this event we have been able to bring the Wichita Children’s Theatre to Ness County for 29 years!

SKIPPYJON JONES COME TO NESS CITY!

Ness City Public Library is pleased to bring Skippyjon Jones and friends to Ness City on Tuesday, June 30 at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church (downstairs –please use south door). This program is free to all NCPL Summer Readers! Please call the library to reserve your seat prior to the program.

Popular author Judy Schachner’s character, Skippyjon Jones, is a Siamese kitten boy who can’t resign himself to being an ordinary cat. When sent to his room for time-out, he resorts to his imagination and takes on the superhero persona of the great Spanish sword fighter, El Skippito. Being a Chihuahua is much more exciting than being a cat!

Skippyjon with the help of Heather Augustine and Sara McFarland will entertain us for approximately 45 minutes as they encourage kids to “Get Creative @ Your Library!” And, as El Skippito (Skippyjon) would say, “ay caramba, mucho fun!”

CD & DVD DISC CLEANING SERVICE

Your library is now offering a NEW service, CD and DVD disc cleaning.

With the aid of a matching grant from the Southwest Kansas Library System, the library has purchased a “Disc-Go-Devil” disc cleaning machine. The original reason for this purchase was to extend the life and circulation time of library owned audio CDs as well as our collection of DVDs. However, the staff and trustees have decided to offer this service to our patrons as well. There is a small fee to help cover the cost of cleaning supplies.

Kansas Health Online is a new web site providing health information for people in Kansas in a way that is easy to use and easy to understand. Find tools to compare hospitals, find doctors, or compare health plans. Analyze your symptons. Find news on medical conditions. Learn how to make healthy choices in your life. Get information to help you understand health policy.

There is an overwhelming amount of health information on the Internet. How do you know what is true? Medical librarians review information on Kansas Health Online to make sure it is reliable and trustworthy. You can be sure the information your find will be of high quality.

Kansas Health Online is a collaborative project developed by the Kansas Health Policy Authority, the State Library of Kansas, and Dykes Library at KU Medical Center.

Lap-Sit Story Time for Babies & Toddlers

Our Lap-Sit Story Time is meeting on every second and fourth Thursday at 10:30 a.m. here at the library. WE STILL HAVE ROOM FOR MORE!

Babies and toddlers ages birth to three years and their parent or care giver are invited to join us as we share stories, rhymes, songs, finger-plays and more. One parent or care giver must accompany each child. There is no charge for this program. If you have questions, feel free to call us at (785)798-3415.

NCPL Joins Foundation Center’s National Network

The NESS CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY is now a Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center. As a member of this nationwide network of libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit agencies, the NESS CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY provides visitors with free public access to grantmaker directories, books on fundraising and nonprofit management, and the Foundation Center’s electronic databases; as well as, Foundation Grants to Individuals Online. The fully searchable databases include detailed profiles of all active U.S. foundations, as well as an extensive file of recent grants awarded by the nation’s top funders.

In partnership with the Ness County Economic Development Office, public meetings will be scheduled at a later date to explain how these grants can be researched and obtained for non-profit organizations and individuals.
